Cosmic 42R project for China: success thanks to global cooperation

Particularly thin micro-coaxial cables for smartphones are extremely challenging when it comes to stripping. Komax developed a tailor-made solution for a Chinese customer. This is based on proven international cooperation and the principle of working hand in hand with customers on site.

Electric Connector Technology Co., Ltd., based in Shenzhen in the Chinese province of Guangdong, is a connector manufacturer with its own wire assembly facilities specializing in the electronics and communications industries.
The company has developed steadily in recent years and supplies well-known data/telecoms companies worldwide.
Micro-coaxial cables: efficient, but demanding in processing
Coaxial cables can transmit high-frequency signals with minimal loss. They are also used in smartphones, where they connect the motherboard to the antenna, for example. This requires micro-coaxial cables with a maximum diameter of 1 mm. These in turn are very demanding in terms of processing. The machines involved must meet the highest quality requirements, because even the slightest defects impair the signal quality.
High-quality stripping with the Cosmic 42R from Komax
This challenge is precisely why we developed the Cosmic 42R, a stripping machine that proves its worth even with particularly thin, hard or tough insulation in the range from 0.005 mm² to 1.5 mm². It’s no wonder, then, that it is now so widely used in the production of such cables for smartphones.
Our customer Electric Connector Technology Co., Ltd. also processes this type of micro-coaxial cable for well-known smartphone manufacturers. They evaluated the Cosmic 42R as being the most accurate machine for the job and decided to purchase it.
For utmost efficiency: integration into production lines
So far, so good. But could this precise table-top module also be installed in production lines? For this kind of solution, Electric Connector Technology Co., Ltd. expected greater efficiency and quality to further strengthen its leading position in the competitive market.
However, this required significant adjustments. As a result, we deployed our regional specialists from Japan and China at the customer’s site to implement this demanding integration project. After just a few months, the solution was ready for use and met the high quality standards for stripping as well as the required productivity targets with production running around the clock. “The Cosmic 42R is the benchmark for processing micro coaxial cable.
