productronica India: Komax innovations met with enthusiasm
Inside Komax
Komax presented several innovations at productronica India last week: the fully automatic Sigma 586 twisting machine, the KTR 5 for harness taping, and the P107C IN crimping press, which is designed and manufactured in India. Fully in line with the Indian government's “Make in India” initiative. We wanted to find out from Ramanathan Murugappan, Managing Director of Komax Automation India, how the Indian market is developing, what the needs of local customers are, and what the new Komax India Application Center is all about.

More than 50,000 visitors took advantage of productronica India in Bengaluru last week to learn about the future of electronics manufacturing in one of the world's most dynamic markets, to network, and to participate in the extensive supporting program of expert presentations and forums. The focus lay on current market trends and technological innovations. Of course, also at the Komax Group's booth, where several innovations were presented. For example, the Sigma 586 twisting machine, which is tailored to the requirements of a wide range of production volumes with high quality standards and enables the fully automatic production and output of twisted cables. Including crimping, sealing, and intelligent wire shifting for any open-end configuration.
Also presented to the public for the first time was the operator-controlled KRT 5 for taping wire harnesses. Long wire sets can be quickly and easily loaded into KTR 5 and taped two to three times faster than with manual taping. No matter how long the wire is.

Another highlight at the Komax booth was the P107C IN benchtop crimping module, which features extremely short cycle times of just 250 milliseconds, high tonnage capacity of up to two tons, and integrated real-time quality control. Including acoustic alarms to alert operators to problems such as bad crimps or an emergency stop. It ensures reliable and consistent crimps, guarantees high output, and is manufactured by Komax Automation in India.
The fact that Komax's innovations met with such a positive response at this year's productronica is due in no small part to the dynamic development that India has experienced in recent years. “The Indian market has seen phenomenal growth, particularly in the automotive and industrial markets,” explains Ramanathan Murugappan, Managing Director of Komax Automation India. “This growth, driven by rising disposable incomes, rapid urbanization, and a supportive government, has led to strong demand for high-quality components, including sophisticated wire harnesses.” In addition, there are ambitious projects in aerospace and transportation, which are receiving additional impetus from government programs such as “Make in India” and the expansion of high-speed rail lines. “In combination with increasing exports, which require compliance with international quality standards, a strong shift from traditional manual and semi-automatic production methods to innovative automation solutions can be observed,” Ramanathan Murugappan continues.
New Komax India Application Center
Automation, digitization, and the concept of smart factories are not only being embraced by more and more Indian companies, but are also being actively promoted. “Indian manufacturers have recognized that innovative technology is not a luxury, but a fundamental prerequisite for staying competitive,” Ramanathan Murugappa adds. The focus here lies on close cooperation with customers: “We don’t just sell machines; we work with our customers as equals, understand their individual challenges, and help them achieve their goals.”
With the opening and recent expansion of the Komax India Application Center in Gurgaon from an original 800 to now over 7000 square meters, Komax is creating space for solutions that are precisely tailored to the requirements of its Indian customers. “The Komax India Application Center is an expression of our conviction that innovative strength arises above all when you operate close to the market and take regional characteristics into account,” says Ramanathan Murugappan. Finally, he is keen to mention one thing in particular: “Our greatest asset is our teams in India. They are the driving force behind everything we do and the reason why we are able to make our customers even more successful.”
