Fully automated tube marking with Komax M1650 Tube
Technology & Innovation
Komax integrates wire tube marking into the Zeta line’s overall process. This consistent automation step offers striking advantages in control cabinet construction.
Key insights
The application of printed tubes onto wires is a flexible way of wire marking if special technical requirements apply.
With the M1650 Tube, Komax is automating tube marking on the Zeta line (630/640/650).
Automation in control cabinet construction reduces lead times and prevents errors.
The industrial sector favors marking with printed tubes
Wire marking often places particular demands on the industrial sector. In certain industries and regions, direct wire marking is not permitted. In addition, a lack of contrast between the wire and the marking impairs readability, which can lead to wiring errors. For cases such as these, using printed tubes offers an attractive alternative to other types of marking. Another significant advantage is that the printed tubes can be moved and rotated on the wire, which is essential for wiring in control cabinet construction.
Komax automates tube marking with the M1650 Tube
Until now, the wires in control cabinet construction were largely marked manually. The marked tubes were carefully pre-produced with a benchtop unit and then manually pushed onto the wires in a further work step. The disadvantages are obvious: The process is extremely time-consuming and facilitates a considerable error rate. With the M1650 Tube module, Komax engineers have now integrated tube marking into the fully automatic wire harness production of the Zeta line, thus closing another gap in the end-to-end manufacturing process of control cabinets.
Ingenious system enables highest efficiency in wire harness production
In less than two seconds, the M1650 Tube module prints a tube from a roll using the thermal transfer process and applies it to the wire; it is cut to the correct length and pushed onto the wire in sequence production using a sophisticated gripper system. Changing the thermal transfer ribbon and tube material takes less than five minutes. Exchangeable application sets also make it possible to process a wide range of tube types (flat, oval, and round) for different wire diameters.
Focus on the important work in control cabinet construction
Not only does the M1650 Tube increase efficiency, but it also prevents errors. By automating the tube marking on the Zeta line, manual marking errors can be ruled out. Employees are relieved of time-consuming marking work and can therefore concentrate fully on the demanding task of wiring.
