Electrical and electronic products must be designed to avoid interference from electromagnetic radiation. Solutions from the field of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) are important factors for smoothly operating process technology.

Customized EMC shielding systems

Komax AT has its own punching department and a cutting department, so our EMC solutions can be tailored to the application. We manufacture tailor-made shielding for your electrical devices, machines, and systems, saving costs and delivering maximum EMC protection.

The product range includes:

  • electrically conductive elastomers

  • electrically conductive textile seals and terminal strips

  • copper beryllium contact fingers

  • Rounding it out are shielding covers for printed circuit board components and electrically conductive paints (copper conductive paint, nickel conductive paint, etc.) for coating plastic housings.

Flexibility

We supply large quantities as well as individual pieces and custom-made products.

Electrically conductive textile seals

Electrically conductive textile seals (FoF-Fabric over Foam) and conductive foam (CF-Conductive Foam) are cost-effective and easy-to-process options for EMC shielding. A large number of different profiles and dimensions, as well as customized punched parts, are available. This type of seal is not only EMC shielding, it is also an environmental seal (IP54).

Features

  • easy to use and apply

  • high abrasion resistance

  • cost-effective

  • easy to compress

  • low surface resistance

Areas of application

Metal housings, control cabinets, displays, plastic housings if equipped with conductive paint

Terminal strip

Copper beryllium terminal strips in a wide variety of shapes, dimensions, and mounting options. To avoid issues of material compatibility, the terminal strips are available with different surfaces.

Features

  • high material strength with excellent spring properties

  • excellent thermal and electrical conductivity

  • different surfaces make for optimum corrosion resistance

Areas of application

printed circuit boards, metal housings, control cabinets, heat sinks

electrically conductive elastomers

Electrically conductive elastomers (EcE) are available in many different elastomer compounds, fillers, and shapes. Common variants are silicone seals filled with carbon or silver-plated glass or silicone foam with a silver-plated surface. This seal also ensures very good environmental sealing (IP65-IP68).

Features

  • excellent electrical properties

  • very good environmental protection (up to IP65)

  • resistant to aggressive liquids

  • high temperature resistance

fully metal woven cords, metal knit over elastomers

These highly conductive seals are available in various material combinations and profiles, and are popular in control cabinet construction.

Features

very good shielding properties

Areas of application

control cabinet construction

PCB shielding – shielding covers/standard shielding covers, one- and two-piece

One-piece shield covers provide protection from six sides, with the sixth side being the printed circuit board itself. One-piece designs provide economical shielding protection where access to components is not required.

Two-piece printed circuit board shields give the user the flexibility to inspect and repair shielded components without risking damage to the printed circuit board by removing the complete shield. The lid snaps on easily and can be removed without great effort, making repairs to components under the shield quicker and easier and reducing subsequent work on the printed circuit board. Two-piece shields are individually available and designed to withstand impact, shock, and vibration testing.

No tool costs are associated with either the one-piece or two-piece design.

Electrically conductive paints

Metal housings provide the best shielding against electromagnetic radiation. But housings for electrical and electronic devices are increasingly made of non-conductive plastics, including PUR foam, ABS, ABS/PC, etc.

Since none of these materials are resistant to electromagnetic interference, device function is impaired and other devices disrupted. Conductive paints are thus required to achieve electromagnetic compatibility and shielding.

The Celerol EMC coating contains a high proportion of conductive particles for metallization and offers very good shielding effectiveness.

Features

  • very good shielding effectiveness with low layer thickness

  • excellent adhesion to commercially available plastics (also without primer)

Areas of application

plastic casing

Solaris Shield™: optical acrylic with embedded mesh

Our Solaris™ Shield solutions can be used in many different applications. Solaris™ Shield is an excellent option for any display requiring EMI shielding,.

Avoid optical interference

If Solaris Shield™ is installed on certain displays, optical interference (moiré) may occur if the orientation of the mesh is not optimized with the pixel matrix of the display. This effect can be avoided by aligning the mesh at a certain angle to the screen.

Our EMI shielding filters can be mounted at any angle from 0° to 90°, so moiré effects from EMI shielding are nothing to worry about.

Features

  • effectively control external emissions

  • minimizes interference with the device

  • metal mesh made of copper directly as an integral part of the acrylic filter

Areas of application

vehicle recognition cameras, NIR sensors, measuring devices, medical applications, electronic instruments, household appliances, building automation, telecommunications

optical quality acrylic glass

Optical filters guarantee that your device only receives light at the desired wavelength and at perfect intensity. The cast and extruded options can be coated to achieve unique properties, depending on the use case and application of your project.

Choose a surface treatment to achieve the following features:

  • scratch resistance

  • resistance to chemicals

  • UV-blocking

  • anti-glare protection

  • anti-reflection

Areas of application

audio & Hi-Fi, infotainment, passenger information, food industry, info kiosks and advertising totems, traffic signs, visualization, barcode scanners, iris scanners, LIDAR applications, NIR sensors, vehicle recognition cameras
