Innovation
Wire business unit
Komax continued its work on the development of new products and optimization of existing ones at a high level in 2010. At the traditional in-house show in Dierikon, Komax had the opportunity to present its innovations to a large number of visitors.
The newly developed Gamma 263 crimping machine for the automotive sector is ideal for customers who want a simple, cost-effective solution but still expect high performance and quality. The Gamma 263 is based on the Shanghai-developed Gamma 253 and is the outcome of close collaboration between the two teams in Switzerland and China. The process technology used and the built-in quality tools were both incorporated into the new model. With the expansion of the Zeta product line for long cables, even harnesses from the passenger cabin can now be inserted fully automatically. To enable customers to process the increasing number of cables with small cross sections – down to 0.13 mm2 – to a high-quality standard, Komax is offering retrofit solutions for its existing machines. In addition, Komax has also further optimized its touch screen user interface.
Solar business unit
In response to increasingly stringent process quality and productivity demands, Komax Solar continued to invest in innovation during the year under review. The successful launch of the new XInspect product family is one example. These devices permit efficient and reliable quality assurance, directly reducing module production costs. A first fully automated partial production line has already been installed and successfully put into service. Komax Solar will install its first complete line, with an integrated XLam laminator, during the first half of 2011.
Medtech business unit
Investments in research and development enabled Komax Medtech to expand and improve its product range. For example, the business unit improved and added numerous modules to its KSPilot system, a transfer platform with flexible feed systems, thereby expanding its range of applications and enhancing the system’s flexibility. A new version with a high-speed walking beam will soon be ready for market. In addition, Komax is expanding its control as well as its complex vision and pattern recognition systems.
