Sustainability and corporate social responsibility

The Komax Group tries to improve its competencies in the areas of sustainability and social responsibility continuously. One outcome of these combined efforts are new guiding principles. A major topic under discussion is how to take a responsible role in building up production and engineering in China.
In terms of corporate social responsibility, Komax is currently focusing on its employees. An initial analysis showed that the Komax guiding principles needed to be brought in line with present-day demands. Both the Group and the environment in which it operates have changed as a result of the strong growth seen over the past two years. The old guiding principles were drawn up at a time when Komax was purely a manufacturer of wire-processing machines. Medtech and photovoltaics had not been integrated, and developments in China and other Asian countries had not been factored in.

Values more important than short-term successes

In a preliminary phase, Komax conducted a review of its corporate values in conjunction with the University of Lausanne.
Among the findings was the exceptional importance that Komax attaches to technology (mechatronics) and training. Some nine percent of Komax’s workforce in Switzerland is in training. These workers include polymechanic technicians, electronics technicians, IT specialists, sales people, automation technicians and design engineers. For comparison purposes: trainees account for an average of some six percent of the total workforce in the Swiss mechanical and electrical engineering industries (Swissmem) as a whole.

Sustainable growth

The key values in the Komax Group’s new guiding principles are formulated as follows:
We are proud of our people and they are proud of Komax
We impress our partners with high quality
We act fairly and tolerantly at all times
We accept responsibility towards people and the environment
We promote transparency
The new guiding principles also define the Group’s consistent growth strategy as well as voicing the conviction that this growth can be “linked with social and ecological sustainability”. Since 2006, Komax has, for instance, been using natural power from renewable sources generated locally.

Healthy growth in China

The Komax Group is pursuing a healthy growth strategy in the Asian market, in particular in China. Komax is committed to sustainability in connection with the expansion of the production site in Shanghai and the building up of development activities. Komax applies the same environmental protection standards in Shanghai as in Switzerland. Komax Group policy is to employ locals and pay fair wages.
