As a machinery producer, Komax is the global leader in crimp-tocrimp machines for the wire-processing market. In addition to this, the Komax portfolio of products and services ranges from wire cutting and stripping machines all the way to systems for the fully automated manufacture of complete wire harnesses.
In the photovoltaics field, Komax is a worldwide supplier of machines for the production of crystalline and thin-film modules. Continuous innovation has enabled Komax to expand its product portfolio significantly in recent years. Today, the company covers the entire spectrum, from individual processes such as stringing through to integration of entire production lines.
In the medical technology sector, Komax produces, for example, machine systems for the manufacture of inhalers and insulin delivery or injection systems. In this field, too, Komax is among the world’s leading suppliers.
The Komax Group operates production facilities in Switzerland, Portugal, France, the United States, Malaysia and China. Finally, Komax offers professional service back-up in over 50 countries. The Group generated net sales of CHF 341.9 million in 2008. Operating profit (EBIT) stood at CHF 31.1 million and Group profit after tax at CHF 23.2 million. As at 31 December 2008, Komax employed a workforce of 1,138 worldwide.

Company History

The Komax company was founded in 1975. Within the last years, it grew from a three-men company to a group of aprox. 1000 cooperators, acting worldwide. A milestone in its history was the first microprocessor driven crimping automat worldwide which was introduced the market in 1981.

1975

Max Koch sets up the Komax engineering company, deriving its name from parts of his own (Koch Max)

1976

Launch of the Komax 20 cutting and stripping machine with stepping motor drive

1978

Komax converts from sole proprietorship to limited company

1981

Komax USA established

1982

The launch of Komax 40 introduces the world's first electronically controlled fully automatic crimping machine

1987

Max Koch is awarded the Branco Weiss Prize as "Businessman of the Year"

1991 – 1995

Targeted expansion outside Switzerland and establishment of branches in countries such as Portugal (1991), Germany, Singapore and Brazil (1994)

1994

Market launch of the Komax Alpha automatic crimping machine

1996

Management buyout: Max Koch sells the company to management under the leadership of Leo Steiner

1997

Going public: Komax AG is listed on the SWX Swiss Exchange
The Alpha 433 and Gamma 333 automated crimpers are unveiled

1999

Launch of the world's first fully automatic crimping machine with twister

1998 – 2001

A number of companies acquired, including Sibos AG, Switzerland (1998), Ascor, USA (2000) and Prime Automation, USA (2001)

2004

Introduction of the zeta range for the production of entire wire harnesses

2005

Takeover of Sigma and Ismeca Automation

2006

Commencement of production and development in China, subsidiary in Malaysia

Current

Komax employs around 1000 staff worldwide and maintains a presence in 50 countries. Komax machines are produced in Switzerland, France, the USA, China and Malaysia
